Development banks can be either bilateral or multilateral. A bilateral development bank is a financial institution located in a specific country which aims to provide financing in the aid of international development. A multilateral development bank, on the other hand, is an institution that is created by a number of countries. It provides financing and professional advice for development purposes.

Multilateral Development Banks
This type of development bank usually has a large number of members which are comprised of both developed donor countries and developing borrower countries. They finance projects through long term loans at market rates, very long term loans or credits that are below market rates, and grants.
